Why not jump off a building in case of fire

Fire is called "toothless tiger", which will make people deeply trapped in fear and lose correct judgment, so as to make some extreme self-defense and self-help behavior. Jumping off a building is one of the extreme ways.

Disaster relief experts tell us that in case of high-rise building fire, especially in the initial stage, there are many safer and correct escape ways than jumping off a building. When the fire just happens, you can use fire extinguishers and fire-fighting facilities to put out the fire at the first time while the fire is still small, and call 119 in time. If it is impossible to call the police, you can send a call for help signal by shouting for help or throwing soft signals such as sofa mats, pillows and clothes downstairs from the balcony or street window, so as to attract the attention of people downstairs and help the police.

If the fire in the building is difficult to control, evacuate from the fire site as soon as possible. Touch the door lock before opening the door. If the door lock temperature is very high or there is thick smoke drilling in from the door crack, it means that the fire or smoke has blocked the door exit. At this time, do not open the door, but retreat to the room, close all doors and windows in the room, plug the door crack with towels and quilts, and pour water to cool down. When there is a chance to escape, try to use the smoke proof staircase, closed staircase, corridor with external windows and indoor descent device, life bag, safety rope and other facilities to quickly stay away from the fire. If you can't leave the fire site in time, you can also choose to enter the refuge floor (room) to escape and wait for rescue.

In the absence of timely rescue and living in a high-rise situation, jumping from a building is not the best choice. When the floor where the trapped person is located is below the third floor, the sheets, quilts, curtains and other fabrics in the room can be torn into load-bearing cloth strips to form ropes, wetted with water, tied on the windowsill, balcony or indoor load-bearing fixed components to slide downstairs, or climb downstairs with doors and windows, balcony, row pipes, etc. When the trapped people are above the third floor, they should try their best to move to the lower floor and then find a way to escape the fire.
