People who have no eye problems have little or no excrement. But after some babies wake up, the corners of their eyes are full of eye droppings. When there are too many eye droppings, they even stick their eyelids, making them not easy to open. Sometimes there is eye droppings during the day. What's going on?
Suspected cause 1: conjunctivitis
After the baby is born, many parents are afraid that the child will catch a cold, so the room temperature at home is often high, and bacteria are easy to reproduce. In addition, newborns will unconsciously rub their eyes with their hands, which is prone to conjunctivitis symptoms such as increased eye secretion and congestion of eyelid conjunctiva. If severe bacterial infection or cold fever occurs, the symptoms such as increased secretion, increased tears and eye congestion will be more obvious, which can also lead to eyelid skin redness and swelling.
Suspected cause 2: neonatal dacryocystitis
Neonatal dacryocystitis is caused by the blockage of the lacrimal passage and nasolacrimal duct that excrete tears. Because the embryonic residual membrane at the lower end of the nasolacrimal duct does not degenerate and blocks the lower end of the nasolacrimal duct, tears and bacteria accumulate in the lacrimal sac under the skin of the inner corner of the eye, resulting in secondary infection. About 2% ~ 4% of full-term newborns have this residual membrane, and most of them can atrophy spontaneously within 4 ~ 6 weeks.
Suspected cause 3: gonococcal pyophthalmopathy
Gonococcal purulent ophthalmopathy is caused by gonococcal infection, and the incubation period is 2 ~ 4 days. Often, due to the mother's gonorrhea, the newborn is infected when passing through the birth canal, and both eyes come on at the same time, showing acute suppurative conjunctivitis. Usually, children's eyelids will be extremely red and swollen and can hardly open, and a large number of purulent eye excrement will be produced continuously. If not treated properly, corneal ulcer will even occur, which will lead to corneal perforation and even blindness.
Suspected cause 4: corneal ulcer
Corneal ulcer can also cause baby's eye excrement, and its consequences may be the most serious. Corneal ulcer is often caused by accidental collision or when the baby unconsciously rubs the eyes with his hands, foreign objects, fingers or nails damage the corresponding parts of the cornea, which is caused by bacterial infection. Infants with unclean surrounding environment and poor resistance are prone to the disease. Because of pain, children often cry, are afraid of light and tears, are unwilling to open their eyes, their eyes are red and secretions appear. Most parents can't find the lesions. Even if they find small white spots on the children's black eyes, they are rarely aware of the seriousness of this matter.
Suspicious cause 5: entropion of eyelids
This is rare. Some babies' facial bones are not fully developed, especially those with a wide and flat nose. They often have the upper eyelid skin extending downward to the inner corner of the eye, covering part of the cornea tissue and even part of the sclera, resulting in the inward movement of the eyelid eyelashes, causing the eyeball to be stimulated by friction and discomfort, resulting in symptoms such as more tears and more secretions.
