In China, there are few women in science classes in high schools or science and engineering majors in universities. The main reasons are:
Traditional inertial thinking
Most Chinese subconsciously believe that science and engineering majors are what boys do. Moreover, girls in high school or university will also receive such a vague message: Mathematics and science are the work of boys, and girls should do something more literary and artistic. However, many studies have shown that girls perform as well as boys in standardized mathematics tests, but the unconscious bias of parents and educators pushes boys into science and mathematics and excludes girls.
Male physical superiority
Science and engineering majors are mostly related to physical strength, and men have more congenital physical advantages than women. This is also an important reason why there are more men and fewer women in science and engineering majors.
Current employment situation
When most enterprises choose science and engineering talents, they are more willing to recruit men (it is generally believed that men's logical thinking ability is higher than women), rather than women. Men in science and engineering majors are more likely to be employed than women.
