What to do after burn and scald

Flames, boiling water, etc. can cause burns or scalds. High temperature will destroy human tissue and, in severe cases, cause tissue and cell necrosis. If the burn site is not handled properly, it may also be secondary to bacterial infection and seriously damage human health.

According to the depth of the injury, burns are divided into three degrees in medicine. First degree burns are the lightest. The injured part is only red, with pain and burning feeling. Generally, it will recover within 1 week without leaving scars. Superficial second degree burns are often accompanied by blisters, with obvious pain and healing within 2 weeks; Deep second degree burns are more severe and heal more slowly, and scars are often left after healing. Third degree burns reach the depth of muscle or even bone, and the injured part may appear scorched black and cannot heal by itself.

Understanding the characteristics of burn depth is helpful to judge the injury condition. Of course, professional treatment should still be handed over to doctors. In case of burn, try to deal with it calmly and quickly to avoid greater injury due to improper handling.

When your clothes are on fire, don't run and cry for help. It's easy to increase the fire and burn. The correct way is to roll on the spot in a safe place to suppress the flame. In case of a pool, it is better to jump into the pool. Do not attempt to extinguish the flame with your hand to prevent your hand from being burned. If you are scalded by boiling water, the soaked clothes should be taken off as soon as possible, but don't tear the clothes in a panic, so as not to aggravate the damage of the scalded part.

If the burned skin is only red after exposure, it indicates that the burn depth is still at one degree. At this time, wash or soak the affected area with cold water, which can take away heat and reduce local damage. If blisters or burnt black appear on the burn surface, it indicates that the burn depth is at least two degrees or more, and you should go to the hospital for treatment immediately.

The blisters on the wound should be well protected, because the blister skin is quite beneficial to wound healing. Do not apply colored drugs on the surface of the injury, which will interfere with the doctor's judgment of the injury. Before going to the hospital, you can cover the injury with a clean cloth for simple protection.

When you are severely burned, you often feel thirsty. Remember not to drink white water at this time. If possible, you can take a small amount of normal saline orally to quench your thirst.
